Combined Entrance Examination (CEEB) conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for admission to M.Sc Biotechnology Programme Academic Session 2015-16
Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary area on the educational scene and programmes have been developed to meet the growing demand for trained manpower for any meaningful Biotechnology activity in the country
The programmes are designed to expose the students to recent exciting developments in the area of genetic engineering and biotechnology and their exploitation in industry, agriculture and medicine
Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold a Combined Entrance Examination for admission to 2 years M.Sc Programme in Biotechnology on behalf of following participating Universities:

The entrance exam will be held on 19th May 2015 at centers all over the country
Eligibility Requirements for JNU Biotech Entrance Exam
Bachelor’s degree under 10+2+3 pattern of education in Physical, Biological, Agricultural, Veterinary and Fishery Sciences, Pharmacy, Engineering/Technology, 4-years B.Sc (Physician Assistant Course); or Medicine (MBBS) or BDS with at least 55% marks
Only those candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2013 or thereafter including those who are appearing in 2015 are eligible to apply
In other words, those who have passed the qualifying examination prior to 2013 are not eligible to apply
Before applying, please ensure that you fulfil the eligibility requirements as prescribed above; also please note that permission to appear in the entrance exam is subject to your fulfilling the minimum eligibility requirements prescribed above
Therefore, appear in the entrance examination only if you fulfil the eligibility requirements for M.Sc Biotechnology Program
Eligibility of Candidates who are due to Appear in the Qualifying Exam
The candidates who are due to appear in the respective qualifying examination prescribed as eligibility for admission shall also be considered for appearing in the entrance examination
Such of the candidates will be allowed to appear in the entrance examination at their own risk and on the clear stipulation that in the event of their selection, they will be entitled to admission only if they secure the minimum prescribed percentage of marks in their qualifying degree exam and that they will be required to submit all the documents including final mark-sheet of the qualifying exam (indicating the final and overall percentage of marks) before the deadline for admission fixed by the concerned participating university
Scholarships
Students selected for admission to M.Sc Biotechnology Programme of the participating Universities will be eligible to receivescholarship at the rate of Rs.3000/- p.m.
The scholarship of Rs.3000/- per month for students joining M.Sc Biotechnology programme at the School of Biotechnology of JNUwould be awarded to all the students during first semester
In the subsequent semesters, the scholarship will be extended only in respect of those students who secure minimum CGPA of 6.00 in the end-semester examinations
Reservation
15%, 7½% and 3% of seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Person with Disability (PWD) candidates respectively
All the SC/ST and PWD candidates who have passed the qualifying examination are eligible to apply irrespective of their percentage of marks in the qualifying exam
Only those SC/ST/PWD candidates who have passed the qualifying examinations in 2013 or thereafter (including those who are appearing in 2015) are eligible to apply; in other words, those who have passed the qualifying exam prior to 2013 are not eligible to apply
OBC reservation, wherever applicable, will be implemented as per the policy of each participating University
Concession for Kashmiri Migrants
10% marks will be added to the overall marks scored by a Kashmiri Migrant candidate in the Entrance Exam. After adding 10% marks, in case he/she is covered in the cut-off point in the merit list, he/she will be offered admission strictly in accordance with his/her inter-se merit alongwith other candidates subject to his/her meeting the minimum prescribed eligibility requirements and also subject to his/her producing valid registration documents issued by the notified authorities certifying the candidate’s Kashmiri migrant status
Entrance Exam
The question paper for the Entrance Examination will be of three hours duration and divided into two parts:
Part-A will have multiple choice type questions at the level of 10+2 in the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology
The Candidates will be required to attempt 60 questions
Total marks for Part A will be (60 questions x 1 mark each) of 60 marks
There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer, ½ (half) mark will be deducted
Part-B will also have multiple-choice questions of Bachelor’s level requiring thinking and analysis
There will be questions from Physics, Mathematics, Biology (e.g., Botany, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics and Molecular Biology) and Chemistry
The candidates will be required to attempt 60 questions
Total marks for Part B will be 60 questions x 3 marks each = 180 marks
There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer one mark will be deducted

i. The University reserves the right to change/cancel any Centre of Examination within India/abroad without assigning any reason

Selection Procedure
The selection will depend strictly on the basis of inter-se merit of the candidate in the entrance examination visa-vis preferences for joining the universities indicated by the candidate
In case a candidate has not indicated his/her choice for joining a particular University, his/her name will not be considered for that University
The candidates will be asked to exercise their options for joining the universities in the proforma (which will be sent by JNU)
The candidates will be asked to send to JNU a Bank draft of Rs.5000/- (Rs.2500/- in the case of SC/ST/PH candidates) as initial security deposit giving their willingness to be considered for admission to the participating universities in accordance with their options for joining the universities vis-à-vis their inter-se merit in the entrance examination
Candidates are advised to check the allotment of university on the web site of the university (www.jnu.ac.in) in the 01st / 02nd Week of July
The participating university will then inform the candidate about the complete admission procedure and schedule of their university as well as the amount of fee etc., to be deposited by the candidate
The initial security deposit already sent by the candidate through demand draft to JNU will be sent to the concerned University for refund after first semester
Candidates may note that request for transfer from one university to another will not be entertained under any circumstances
Therefore, candidates are advised not to make any request in this regard
Admit Card for Entrance Exam
The candidates may download their Admit Card from the University’s website www.jnu.ac.in around 10th May 2015 and take the Admit Card to the Examination Centre with a copy of latest passport size photograph
Those candidates who have applied and fulfil the prescribed eligibility conditions but somehow are able to download the Admit Card are advised to contact either the JNU
It may be noted that only those candidates will be allowed to appear in the entrance examination whose names appear in the roll-list available with the examination centre
The University will assume no responsibility whatsoever in case the candidate fails to report on the due date and time for appearing in the entrance exam
Examination Fee
You have enclosed a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Jawaharlal Nehru University” payable at New Delhi for the amount indicated below towards the entrance examination fee
i. General Category Candidates including OBC Candidates – Rs.600/-
ii. SC/ST/PWD Category Candidates (PWD includes OH, VH and HH) – Rs.300/-
iii. Foreign Nationals US$ 25.00 or Rs.1550/-
Application Form
Application Forms can be submitted only by Registered Post/Speed Post to Section Officer (Admissions), Room No.28, Administrative Block, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067
The completed offline Application Form must reach JNU latest by 25th March 2015
JNU will not accept responsibility for any postal delay or irregularity or loss in postal transit
Please do not send your application form through private courier services or any other postal mode except registered post/speed post
Important
The candidates are also required to produce all originals of the above certificates/documents for verification at the time of registration/admission. In the absence of any of the original certificates/documents, registration/admission shall not be allowed
