The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted on rotation by 16 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M)
The 16 participating NLUs in the order of their establishment are:

Now there are 16 participating NLUs and following the practice the eighth Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2015) will be conducted by the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National University, Lucknow
Programmes Offered
The Under-Graduate Programme offered by the National Law Universities:
The Sixteen NLUs offer a five-year integrated under-graduate law courses leading to the award of B.A. LL.B (Hons), B.Sc LL.B (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BSW LLB (Hons), B.Com LLB (Hons) degrees. While BA LL.B (Hons) is offered by most of the universities, B.Sc LLB (Hons) Course is offered by WBNUJS (Kolkata), NLU (Jodhpur) and GNLU (Gandhinagar); BBA LLB (Hons) is offered by NLU (Jodhpur), GNLU (Gandhinagar), CNLU (Patna) and NLUO (Cuttack); whereas BSW LLB (Hons) and B.Com LLB (Hons) degree courses are offered by GNLU (Gandhinagar) alone
The Post-Graduate Programme offered by the National Law Universities:
The information of the LLM degree course offered at the various NLUs with the duration and the specializations have been provided in detail under the sections of each University; the candidates are also advised to check the websites of respective Universities from time to time to keep themselves updated about the changes in the course structure and other details
Eligibility Criteria for UG/PG Program
Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a non-statutory body created for the convenience of the students seeking admission to the various Law Universities in the Country under Memorandum of Understandings (MoU)
An entrance test is conducted to provide a list of candidates on the basis of ‘merit-cum-preference’ to each University for admission to their UG/PG programs, as per the qualifications, reservation and other conditions laid down under the respective Statutes of the participating Universities
The qualification and other details as provided by Statutes of each University for admission to UG/PG program, is given as follows:
Eligibility for CLAT 2015
Educational Qualification for UG Programme: A candidate should have obtained Higher Secondary School/ Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST candidates), as prescribed by the respective Statutes of the participating Universities
Age for UG Programme: A candidate should be below 20 years of age as on 01st July 2015 (22 years in case of SC/ST and Persons with Disability candidates, as prescribed by the respective Statutes of the participating Universities
Educational Qualification for PG Programme: A candidate should have obtained an LL.B/a five year integrated LL.B/any other equivalent degree from a recognized University with not less than 55% marks in aggregate (50% in case of SC/ST candidates), as prescribed by the respective Statutes of the participating Universities
Age for PG Programme: The participating Universities have not prescribed any upper age limit for PG Programmes
Reservation for UG/PG Programme: As per the Statutes of respective participating Universities; details may be seen in the prospectus of the respective University appended herewith
Exam Pattern CLAT 2015
The CLAT-2015 Question Paper for UG courses shall multiple choice type questions as per the following scheme
Maximum Marks: 200
Duration of CLAT-2015: 02:00 Hours
Total Number of Questions: 200
Negative Marking: 0.25 Mark/wrong answer
Subject areas with weightage
1. English including Comprehension: 40 Marks
2. General Knowledge and Current Affairs: 50 Marks
3. Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): 20 Marks
4. Legal Aptitude: 50 Marks
5. Logical Reasoning: 40 Marks
The CLAT-2015 Question Paper for PG courses shall have the following pattern:
Maximum Marks: 150
Duration of CLAT-2015: 02:00 Hours
Long Essay Type Descriptive Questions: 100 Mark
Multiple-Choice Questions: 50 Marks (50 questions of 1 mark each)
Negative Marking: 0.25 Mark/wrong answer to MCQ
The long essay type contains 4 questions and 25 marks each pertaining to subject areas such as constitutional Law and Jurisprudence
The Multiple-Choice Questions covers all subjects except Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence prescribed by BCI for Under-Graduate Courses
Tie-Breaking
In case of equal marks secured by candidates, the procedure to break the tie will be as per the following order:
(i) Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in CLAT-2015
(ii) Higher age
(iii) Computerized draw of lots
The Merit List would be prepared on the basis of maximum marks score by the aspirants and the total no. of seats vacant. And the merit list would contain the list of selected and qualified aspirants
The aspirants would be able to apply for the examination which would be held on May 2015 from the official website from January 2015 – April 2015 via Online Mode
Procedure to take admission under the NRI/NRI sponsored seats in various NLUs: The candidate interested in seeking admission in any of the NLUs under the NRI/NRI sponsored seat shall undertake the CLAT-2015
The admission will be based on the merit in CLAT-2015
The students are also simultaneously required to complete the formalities of the respective universities, if any, for which the candidate need to, contact the respective university of interest for further information
How to Apply
The CLAT 2015 is being conducted by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National University, Lucknow (Website www.rmlnlu.ac.in)
Application Form and Information Brochure for CLAT 2015
The CLAT 2015 Online Application Form will be accessible on the CLAT website (www.clat.ac.in) between 01st January 2015 to31st March 2015 along-with the Information Brochure
No hard copy of the Application Form and Information Brochure will be sold
CLAT 2015 Information Brochure (not the application form) will also be accessible from the respective website of all the participating NLU(s)
Application Fee
The candidates has to pay the application fee for general OBC/PWD and other category candidates Rs.4000/- while submitting the Application Form of CLAT-2015
The fee is Rs.3500/- in case of the SC/ST category candidates
The candidates will have to bear the bank transaction costs for remitting the fee online while submitting the application form
The above application fee includes cost of online application form and e-brochure
Previous year e-Question Papers of CLAT shall be available on the payment of Rs.250/- only; for this the mode of payment is Online only
Mode of Payment through CLAT 2015
A candidate will have to make payment on three occasions through CLAT website viz,
i) submitting the Online Application Form
ii) if interested in downloading the Previous Year’s Question papers and
iii) while participating in the counseling session
A candidate will have to make online/offline payment through CLAT website
The online payment can be made through net-banking, debit card, credit card etc. wherein the candidate will have to bear the additional bank transaction charges for remitting the fees through payment gateways
For paying the fees offline through website, the candidate will have to download the ‘Bank Challan‘ that will be generated with the required information, as filled in by the candidate, and make the payment with additional bank charges at any branch of the designated bank
After making the requisite payment at the bank, the candidate needs to fill-in the details of the Bank Challan as required at the relevant section of application form on the website
Mode of Application
There is only one mode of application i.e. online which can be accessed by a candidate after registering himself/herself on theCLAT website by creating a login account
The Online Application Form can be submitted only between 01st January 2015 to 31st March 2015 (11.59 PM)
The submitted Online Application Form in PDF format and other details will be available and accessible in the Login Account of the candidate; no copies of the filled in Online Application Form or uploaded certificates/documents need to be sent to the CLAT Office separately
The Hall-Ticket/Admit Card may be accessed / downloaded by the candidate in the personal LOGIN ACCOUNT; the candidate is required to take the printout of the Admit Card to the Exam Hall
Incomplete application or application in any mode other than online or application after the last date and time shall not be considered. It shall be the obligation of the candidate to fill the Online Application Form in a timely manner and the Organizing University, i.e. Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow -226012 (UP) shall not be responsible in anyway
Documents to be uploaded during Online Application
The original certificates/documents issued by the competent authority as specified in the CLAT 2015 Information Brochure are to be submitted to the allotted University only at the time of admission
The relevant copies of the certificates/documents in support of one’s claim for admission are to be uploaded while filling the Online Application Form (photograph and signature of the candidate and parent/guardian need not be attested)
The scanned copies of the documents to be uploaded in the PDF/jpg format by all the candidates are:
a) Birth Certificate, if not available then standard 10th passing certificate issued by recognized board or Passport can be uploaded
b) Standard 10th Marksheet
c) Qualifying Exam Marksheet/Certificate such as 10+2 or its equivalent examination certificate from a recognized Board (for UG Courses)
d) Qualifying Exam Marksheet/Certificate such as LLB or its equivalent exam certificate from a recognized University (for PG Courses)
e) Front Facing Passport size photograph (3.5 cms x 4.5 cms) [JPG Format, SIZE-within 100 KB]
f) Signature of candidate [JPG Format, SIZE-within 100 KB]
The scanned copies of the documents to be uploaded in the PDF format by a candidate depending on the applicability are:
i) Category Certificate (SC/ST/OBC)
ii) Disability Certificate (Persons with Disability, PWD)
iii) Special Category certificate like E.B.C.; B.C.; W.B.C.; D.F.F.; S.E.B.C.; Ancestral residents of village Sidhuwal, District Patiala; Son / Daughter of Defense Personnel Deployed in U.P. or Defense Personnel of U.P. either retired or killed/ disabled in action; Dependant of Freedom Fighter of U.P. and Kashmiri Migrant
iv) Certificates in support of one’s claim for NRI/NRI Sponsored Candidate
v) Domicile Certificate in support of one’s claim for consideration under State Quota
Declaration of Results
CLAT 2015 result will be published on 20th May 2015 on the CLAT Website www.clat.ac.in with an overall merit list of candidates prepared according to their CLAT Score along with their categories
In addition, state specific and all India merit lists will be prepared for various categories of candidates like Unreserved/ SC/ ST/ OBC/ Women/ PWD etc; the candidate will be able to access the results through the personal login account
