Important Chapters for NEET 2018 and NEET 2019
When a student prepares for NEET UG, it is important for him / her to know the complete syllabus. Even in syllabus, it is a smart thing to do to know about most important chapters for NEET 2018 (or NEET 2019 if appearing in 2 years). One who attends coaching classes may get expert tips from teachers there about which chapters to pay more attention to. But what about those who have not been told or have no idea about it? Well, this article here is a starting point.
How to start preparations for NEET 2018 or NEET 2019?
If you are planning to appear in NEET 2018, then your first goal should be to complete the syllabus. For theory, you must refer to NCERT textbooks as they cover the NEET syllabus most comprehensively. Next, you can use one or two books for each subject to practice MCQs. You should complete these two steps for all chapters by December.
If you will appear in NEET 2019 then you have a good time to plan and prepare. Make sure that you take down notes for each chapter so that when the time comes to revise, you can do it well. Theory should be studied from NCERT along with state board textbooks if you have different books. Let us first take a look at marks distribution between class 11 and 12 topics
Subject | Class XI | Class XII
Number of questions | Total marks | Number of questions | Total marks
Physics | 19 | 76 | 26 | 104 |
Chemistry | 16 | 64 | 29 | 116 |
Botany | 28 | 112 | 22 | 88 |
Zoology | 25 | 100 | 15 | 60 |
Total | 88 | 352 | 92 | 368 |
As can be seen, the marks distribution is almost equal between the two classes. Hence, it is of utmost importance to study chapters taught in class 11 as well as class 12 properly.
Before we dive into answering this question, a little word of caution: CBSE has simply laid down a syllabus for NEET exam. It has not specified any weightage to any chapter. Most important chapters for NEET 2018 and NEET 2019 are recommended on basis of past year paper analysis.
In NEET 2017, maximum questions were from NCERT.
So firstly we will look at the sections which had maximum importance in the last National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG).
Physics: Mechanics is the most important topic. 12-13 questions were asked on it last time.
Chemistry: Organic Chemistry dominates the chemistry question paper. 14-15 questions were from topics related to it.
Biology: There was a more uniform distribution of questions in Biology. There was no single unit or topic from which more than 6 questions were asked. Hence it would be wrong to deem any one single chapter most important as all are important.
Chapter wise weightage for NEET 2018: Next, we will talk about weightage of questions for NEET 2018 and NEET 2019.
The best way to represent NEET chapter wise weightage and marks is to show you the question distribution of last time.
