An overseas student needs to apply for a student visa to study in NewZealand. A student can only apply for the visa once the student receives the formal offer letter of admission from the institution.
One doesn’t need a visa or permit if they are a citizen of New Zealand or Australia, possess a New Zealand residence permit, or are the holder of a active Australian permanent residence visa including a current Australian resident return visa.
Document Checklist to submit a student visa application
1) Passport (Passport should be valid for completion date + 3 months)
2) A completed Student Visa Application Form and Supplementary information form
3) Passport sized photograph
4) Payment of non-refundable visa Application Fee
5) An Offer of Place Letter from the educational institution
6) Written Guarantee of Accommodation from a NZ institution or person that suitable accommodation is available
7) Financial Documents – Funds to cover:
Tuition for First 12 months of study
Living Expenses for one year which have been increased from NZ$10,000 to NZ$15,000 per annum
Evidence of sufficient funds to live at the place while studying
Evidence of payment of tuition fees
Student have to show Living Expense which is 15000 NZD per year & Tution Fee of 1 year as Funds & the remain years’ Living Expense & Tution Fee in Plan of payment

Personal Statement addressing questions why choosing NZ as the destination to study , reasons for choosing the specific course and future plans after pursuing the course.
9) Health Requirements
–If you have an offer of place for a course with duration between 6 to 12 months, you must undergo a TB screening X-ray and submit Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate form (NZIS 1096)
–If you have an offer of place for a course with duration more than 12 months, you must undergo a full medical and x-ray examination and submit Medical and Temporary Entry X-ray Certificate form (NZIS 1007)
10) Police Clearance Certificate
All students above 17 years of age and intending to stay in New Zealand for more than 2 years must provide a Police Clearance Certificate to show that you are of a good character.
Kindly make sure before applying for the visa that the course must be approved by the NZQA.
