Over lakhs of students appeared for the JEE Advanced examination 2016 conducted on Sunday, May 22 in two sessions, Paper-I from 9 am-12 pm and Paper-II from 2 pm-5 pm living to its characteristic nature of throwing surprise, maximum marks were upto 372 from previous year’s 360 and the number of questions in each section in each paper was down to 18 from previous year’s 20. It appears that this reduction was done to accommodate a few lengthy questions.
Candidates can take a crack at JEE a maximum of two times, and hence many students who had appeared for this exam last year registered again for it this year.
IIT JEE Advanced is divided into two different papers, and candidates have to attempt both Paper I and Paper II, with their results being judged on the basis of the average marks obtained by them in both the papers.

With negative marking even for multiple choice questions (MCQs), wherein two marks will be deducted for every incorrect MCQ answer, only added to the difficulties that the students faced. Two key changes were there. Firstly the partial marking for multiple answer correct has been brought back. Secondly, the paper was more logical than being calculative.
In Chemistry – overall difficulty level is moderate. There were at least 4 questions which were not at all easy and could easily be mis-interpreted by the students. There were 5 questions from Organic Chemistry, 6 from Inorganic Chemistry and 7 from Physical Chemistry. It would be difficult to score 80 per cent in the chemistry paper.
In Mathematics – the paper is typically tough as per the standards of JEE. There were about 4-5 questions which have lengthy solutions. Even in this paper, scoring wouldn’t be high.
In Physics – overall paper was easiest that the other two subjects. It could be the best part amongst the three. All questions were standard and clear.

ANALYSIS REPORT OF JEE ADVANCED PAPER – 1
PHYSICS: Physics paper is very conceptual and difficult. Students would take more than 1 hour for sure if they had to solve all the questions
CHEMISTRY: Paper was based on fundamentals but some questions were tricky also. Physical chemistry and organic chemistry questions were above moderate level. Few questions can be considered slightly out of syllabus also. Physical, organic and inorganic had almost same weightage
MATHS: Math Paper 1 is tougher this time in comparison with that of last year. Few questions from calculus took more time than usual.
Multiple answers type questions were slightly lengthy. However overall the paper was more or less comparable to JEE of every year.
ANALYSIS REPORT OF JEE ADVANCED PAPER – 2
PHYSICS: The paper is very conceptual and tough. On an average, the students will not be able to complete it in one hour. One question in physics does not have any option correct.
CHEMISTRY: Organic chemistry was tough. Physical and inorganic chemistry questions were of moderate level. Similar to paper 1 in this paper also some questions were tricky which required alertness and sound fundamentals.
MATH: As compared to paper1, paper2 was a bit lengthy. No question is doubtful or ambiguous. Overall the difficulty level of JEE 2016 advanced was higher as compared to previous years.
