UGC Approves Revised Rates of Fellowship for Postdoctoral Fellows

The University Grants Commission, UGC, has approved the revised rates of fellowships for postdoctoral research scholars in science, humanities and social sciences.

This was announced by Ranish Jain, secretary, UGC in a statement recently. The statement says that the decision was taken after a meeting in May.

The four fellowship schemes include Dr. D S Kothari Post-Doctoral Fellowship of three years duration. The revised fellowship amounts to Rs 54,000 per month under the revised scheme with a contingency amount of Rs 1 lakh per year.

Dr. S Radhakrishnan post-doctoral fellowship which is again of three years will also have its researches receive an amount of Rs 54,000 per month under the revised scheme with a contingency amount of Rs one lakh per anum.

Researchers belonging to SC/ST category doing post-doctoral fellowship of five years duration will receive an amount of Rs 54,000 per month from the third year. The contingency amount is Rs 50,000 annually.

The post-doctoral fellowship for women is again of five years duration. The women researchers too, will receive an amount of Rs 54,000 per month from the third year. The contingency amount here too is Rs 50,000 annually.

The revised rates of fellowship will be effective from 1 January 2019.
