Govt To Make UGC NET Mandatory For Guest Lecturer Appointments
The state government has decided to adhere to UGC norms in teaching, non-teaching appointments in self-financing colleges.
The higher education commission’s move comes amid allegations that the quality of higher education and evaluation of answer sheets are affected as persons without apt qualifications are teaching at colleges.

For this, the University Act will be amended to include self-financing colleges and will be implemented from next academic year.
With this, UGC NET will become mandatory for teachers at self-financing colleges. When the Act is implemented, teachers will be given enough time to qualify the eligibility. The details of the teachers should be stored at respective universities, said higher education minister KT Jaleel.

There are no laws in the state to integrate the functioning of the self-financing colleges that exist over 20 years.
Proper norms will be listed in the Act on service, remuneration, eligibility and leave of teaching-nonteaching staff in self-financing colleges, added minister.

Discussions are in progress to frame the rules. Also, chief minister’s instruction to prefix aided colleges with govt., will be implemented very soon, Jaleel further said.
