SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2017 (Tier-I, II, III & IV) (Updated Pattern)
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct the CGL exam. CGL Tier-1 exam qualified candidates will be able to appear for the CGL Tier-2 exam and those candidates who will pass the Tier-2 exam will be eligible for Tier-3 exam. Candidates who are going to appear for “CGL Exam” must know the exam pattern, marking scheme and syllabus to perform well in the exam.
This year Staff Selection commission had made some major changes in the SSC CGL Exam Pattern. Therefore, it is a must that you should get every single detail of the new pattern for SSC CGL Exam 2017.

What Is The New Pattern For SCC CGL 2017 Exam?
The revised exam pattern for SSC CGL includes four tiers – Tier 1 (Preliminary Exam), Tier 2 (Mains), Tier 3 (Descriptive), and Tier 4 (DEST/CPT). Tier 3 and Tier 4 have been added recently.

- Tier -I — Written Examination (Objective Multiple Choice Type)

Tier 1 Syllabus
Tier 1 is an objective test conducted in online mode. There will be four sections of Tier 1 exam including General Intelligence and Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness and English Comprehension. There will be 100 questions of 200 marks.
Changes in SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2017 Tier 1 & 2
- Now SSC will conduct both Tier -I and Tier II exam in online mode.
- Introduce a descriptive paper of 100 marks within 60 minutes in pen and paper mode.
- Reduce the time limit for examination of Tier -I from 120 minutes to 75 minutes.
- Tier II will remain same.
- No Sectional Cut off.

- SSC CGL Tier –I Exam Dates: 01 August, 2017 to 20 August, 2017 (CBE)*
- SSC CGL Tier –II Exam Dates: 5-8 September,2017

- Total questions asked are 100, comprising of 200 marks. Each question would carry 2 marks.
- Paper Mode: Tier 1 will be conducted online.
- Negative Marking: There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer you make.
- Questions will be of the Objective type with multiple choices. Candidates can choose their Medium as Hindi or English.
- You have to qualify Tier 1 exam to move on to Tier 2.

- Paper Mode: Tier 2 will be conducted online.
- Negative Marking: There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks in Paper-II and 0.50 marks in Paper-I and Paper-III for each wrong answer.
- Questions will be of the Objective type with multiple choices. Candidates can choose their Medium as Hindi or English.
- You have to qualify Tier 2 exam to move on to Tier 3.
- Paper-I & II are compulsory for all the categories of posts.
- Paper-III is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr. II & Compiler.
- Paper IV is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Assistant Audit Officer.

- Tier 3 has been introduced w.e.f. CGLE 2017.
- The exam would be a descriptive type.
- Paper Mode: Tier 3 would be an offline paper.
- It will carry 100 marks and the duration of the paper would be one hour.
- This Tier has been introduced to assess the writing skills of the candidates which are necessary for Government jobs.
- The Paper would comprise writing of an Essay / Passage of 250 words and Letter / Application Writing of approximately 150 words.
- The qualifying marks in Tier-III would be 33 per cent.
- The paper will have to be written either in Hindi or in English.
- The questions in this paper would be of 10+2 standard.
- The marks obtained by the candidates in Tier I & Tier II, together, would determine the eligibility of the candidates to appear in Tier III & Tier IV.

- Tier-IV of the Examination would continue to be the Data Entry Skill Test (DEST) /Computer Proficiency Test (CPT).
- The exam is qualifying in Nature.
- Computer Proficiency Test => for Asst. Section Officer in CSS post only.
- Data Entry Skill Test at Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour => for Tax Assistant post only.
